Carolina Beach State Park Glass Cleanup on October 11
Come join other fellow non-profits clean up a unique area of Carolina Beach State Park called "Lily Pond," which was a dumping site for trash from the 1920s through the 1960s. The Sierra Club has participated in this event a number of times the past few years, however, this time we are not able to sponsor this as an official Sierra Club event. The Plastic Ocean Project (POP) is the main sponsor and they would be delighted if we have members that would join them. Park Ranger Jesse Anderson will also give a short presentation on the Lily Pond. This past January, Cape Fear Sierra Club (CFSC) collected 1,465 pounds of glass and POP planted one tree for each 25 pounds collected. Fifty-eight trees were added to our area!
When: Oct. 11 from 10am to 1pm (although you are free to leave when you want.)
Where: Contact Plastic Ocean Project for details
Bring: Hat, work gloves, water and a small trowel for digging in the dirt for glass.
